Google says the Home app for web browsers is rolling out over the course of this week. My account first got access last night, October 26, after checking several times since the official announcement. The Google Home app can’t be used as a speaker for your PC, but that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck. If you own a Nest speaker, you can easily connect the speaker to your desktop using Bluetooth. While there’s no official Google Home app built for Windows, Mac, or Linux desktops, you can download an Android emulator to mimic the functionality of the Google Home app on your PC.
The main catch right now seems to be a lack of support for viewing camera history from the browser app. Speaking personally, that’s something I rarely required, but it’s a bummer nonetheless. Using this, you could write your own web service to access and control various functions and features of your Google Home devices. As of October 2022, the Google Home web app has a single purpose – a live view of your Nest cameras. You can access the web app at home.google.com/u/0/home, but the URL only works if the experience has been rolled out to your account.

Most Nest smart displays and Wi-Fi devices have a Thread border router built in, so you won’t need a separate hub for adding Thread devices to your smart home. Control it all with just a tap or two – and get to the good stuff faster. The Feed tab highlights important events in your home in one place. Here, you’ll also find ways to get more out of your devices and improve your home setup.

In a blog post published today, the company announced that it’s rolling out a new Google Home update on home.google.com that lets you view your Nest camera and doorbell feeds on the web. The interface switches back and forth between two main views. There’s a grid view that shows all of your cameras are once as well as a list view that puts one camera feed on screen and has shortcuts to the rest along the left side of the UI. The actual camera feed has limited controls including zoom, mute for audio, and a full-screen button.
If you have more than one Nest camera, you can choose how to view your cameras on your browser screen. To use Google Home for web with devices originally set up with the Nest app, migrate your Nest Account to a Google Account. Increased compatibility and confident connectivity with Matter and Thread.3 Matter helps ensure your smart home is easier to build, faster to set up, and more responsive and reliable. The new Favorites section makes it easier to access the things you care about most.

Where Google’s original legacy Nest cameras offered a live feed at home.nest.com, newer models have lacked that functionality for the past two years since they first hit the market. Excuse my mess of a garageIn my book, that’s actually fine! I like having a live feed into my cameras while I’m working at my PC, but I rarely use the web view to look at history. It takes just a few seconds to load up a camera feed after accessing the site, and even with the page open for a while, feeds don’t break. We're excited to announce that Google Nest and Android users can now enjoy your Matter-enabled devices and apps!
The app and controls are fantastic, but adding a new device is clunky, not intuitive and most of the time doesn't work. If you move your Google device to a new room or it gets unplugged by accident it's a pain to get it to work again. Adding smart plugs or bulbs is a challenge when it doesn't find it. Most of the time I have to download the brands app as well when it should just be a simple process.

Buy a Chromecast Chromecast is a media streaming device from Google. It seems that, as of now, there’s no method for text entry. That means, even if you do manage to get to a website like Netflix or another service that requires a log in of some kind, you won’t be able to. As far as we can tell, there’s no obvious workaround — there’s no copy/paste function and connecting a keyboard to the service port does nothing.
To pull up the browser, simply use the normal hotword “OK Google” to search for a query that might give you a Wikipedia result. For these queries you should see a Wikipedia result with a tappable link near the bottom. It's amazing that there isn't an app for this within the Google Chrome! But as it seems, most of their apps have limited functionality on PC, so maybe that's not a surprise. Google Pixel Watch Ben's smartwatch of choice with his phone is the Google Pixel Watch.
You can simply view the cameras and turn them off or on. To get started, download Bluestacks for your PC or Mac, then launch the program. During setup, you’ll be prompted to enter Google Play Store credentials for downloading apps. After entering this info, go into the Play Store, search for Google Home, and clickInstall. Update to the latest version of Chrome and verify that your PC and Google Home device both connect to the same Wi-Fi network. A few advanced features of the Nest camera and doorbell, Nest Aware, and other Nest products and services are only available in the computer version of the app.
