Similar to the Google Home app, there’s no official Google Assistant app for desktop computers. That said, there exists an unofficial Google Assistant that you can download to add the voice assistant to your PC. Keep in mind that the process for installing this backend solution is a bit complex, and we can’t promise how well it will actually work. Buy a Chromecast Chromecast is a media streaming device from Google. It seems that, as of now, there’s no method for text entry. That means, even if you do manage to get to a website like Netflix or another service that requires a log in of some kind, you won’t be able to. As far as we can tell, there’s no obvious workaround — there’s no copy/paste function and connecting a keyboard to the service port does nothing.

The same warning pop-up mentions that bandwidth restrictions could lead to a lapse in recording, and that streaming will drain the battery on the newer battery-powered cameras. Google Chrome mimics some of the functionality of the Google Home app, but it's limited. For example, you cannot set up Google Home devices using the Chrome browser, so you still need a mobile device or Android emulator for that. However, you can cast or stream to any of your Google Home or Chromecast devices using Chrome. To open a larger view for a specific camera, select the camera's name or live feed.
The only issues I’ve noticed so far have been with legacy cameras, which occasionally seem to fail to load on the “grid” view such as my backyard Nest Cam Outdoor below. To do so, you’ll first want to ensure that your desktop is running the latest version of Chrome.
